My Teaching Philosophy
1. 人人可教,皆可成材
To me, learning is motivating and fun. Education is not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about fostering interpersonal growth. Since learning process can happen anytime, anywhere and with anyone you meet, as Confucius once said, "When three people walk together, one can always be my teacher."
2. Educating for the Value Beyond Education.
Inspired by Alibaba Cloud's motto "Computing for the Value Beyond Computation", I believe in Educating for the Value Beyond Education.
Like the boy who returned starfish to the sea, I believe even the smallest act of guidance can change a life. In academia, I am not a loud person; I seek to please no one.
I am the lighthouse; I am the North Star.
In the spirit of Confucian teaching, I strive to cultivate virtue through education, nurturing each student’s growth within my capacity. My goal is to make a meaningful difference for you.
About Me
I am originally from Penang and completed my secondary education at Chung Ligh High School Butterworth. The sprit of 爱吾锺灵 (Love My Chung Ling), and the 锺灵中学学生的十大信条 (Ten Principles of Chung Ling Students) are deep rooted in my identity.
I obtained my Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the Faculty of Civil Engineering University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), followed by a Master of Technology Management from the Faculty of Management
I spent four years working at one of the Malaysian Best Managed Companies, YTL Corporation Bhd under one of the divisions-YTL Cement Bhd
This industry experience allows me to understand both the technical knowledge of engineers and the strategic expectations of large organisations.
In 2007, I was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue further PhD studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The University of Edinburgh consistently ranked among the world best universities by QS World University Ranking and Times Higher Education.
I truly enjoyed my time studying in Edinburgh, learning from the best to become the best version of myself. I returned in January 2011 to join Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), and obtained my PhD on 26 June2012
From July 2018 to June 2019, I returned to the University of Edinburgh as a Visiting Researcher. The process of re-learning was fantastic.

I believe that academic excellence requires hard work and a positive attitude. I am not a loud person. I am polite. I work professionally to contribute to the success of my student, my faculty and my university. I am a man of principles.
A Sincere Sharing
I am a hardworking lecturer, and I expect the same from my students. I dislike unreasonable excuses, or students who take advantage of others without contributing to group efforts.
The bottom line is, I was once a student too. I have seen how a poor attitudes can cause high-potential candidates to face unnecessary challenges in their career and private lives. There are no shortcuts to success. Working hard and working sincerely will always make you outshine the rest.
You are fortunate to study at a public university like UTeM. Think of those who lack this opportunity and but thirst for the qualifications that can ensure a secure career.
Think of the day your parents, friends and family will attend your graduation. That is your ultimate objective. Do not fail yourself, and do not fail those who love you.
University is not just about a degree, it is a place to refine your personality and build your strengths. You truly earn the title of "University student", only when you pair knowledge and skill with positive personal qualities. Carry your title-Bachelor, Master or PhD well. Reflect it through the quality of your work. Gain respect.

Advice to you as my student
I am friendly and kind. I care about my students. However, I am firm and demanding to the quality of your academic work, and your personal quality.
I value those who are hardworking, genuine and honest. I expect you to give me "only the best quality of work you can produce". I cannot work with excuses or low-quality work that disregards the value of our time.
