My Teaching Philosophy
1. Education for all, every student can succeed 人人可教，皆可成材
To me, learning is motivating and joyful. Education is not only about acquiring knowledge, it is also about fostering personal growth. Since learning happens anytime, anywhere and with anyone you meet, as Confucius said, "When three people walk together, one can always be my teacher."
2. Educating for the Value Beyond Education.
Inspired by Alibaba Cloud's motto "Computing for the Value Beyond Computation", I believe in Educating for the Value Beyond Education.
Like the boy who returning starfish to the sea, I believe even the smallest act of guidance can change a life. In the academic journey, I strive to be a lighthouse; and a North Star.
In the spirit of Confucian teaching, I aim to cultivate virtue and nurture each students' growth to make a meaningful difference.
About Me
Originally from Penang, I completed my secondary education at Chung Ling High School Butterworth. The sprit of 爱吾锺灵 (Love My Chung Ling), and the 锺灵中学学生的十大信条 (Ten Principles of Chung Ling Students) are deeply rooted in my identity.
I obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from the Faculty of Civil Engineering University of Technology Malaysia (UTM), followed by a Master of Technology Management from the Faculty of Management
I spent four years at YTL Corporation Bhd (Specifically YTL Cement Bhd.), one of the Malaysia's best-managed companies.
This industry experience allows me to bridge the gap between technical engineering knowledge and the strategic expectations of large organisations.
In 2007, I was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue a PhD at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. The University of Edinburgh consistently ranked among the world best universities by QS World University Ranking and Times Higher Education.
I enjoyed my time studying in Edinburgh, learning from the best to become the best version of myself. I returned in January 2011 to join Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM), and obtained my PhD on 26 June2012
From July 2018 to June 2019, I returned to the University of Edinburgh as a Visiting Researcher, the process of re-learning was fantastic.

I am passionate about greenfield research centered on my expertise:
(a) Technology Management (Green Technology)
(b) Sustainable Management
I approach these topics from social science and management perspectives. My expertise in Technology Management and Sustainable Management helps governments, industries, companies, organisations structure sustainable strategies, mitigating risks, capturing emerging opportunities and creating positive impacts on the economy, society and the environment.

Supervision for Doctorate and PhD
I am available as a principal supervisor for students who possesses both academic quality and a great attitude. Because Green Technology and Sustainable Management are complex fields, I expect candidates' research interests to align closely with mine to ensure a seamlessly collaboration.

A Sincere Sharing
I am a hardworking lecturer, and I expect the same from my students. I dislike unreasonable excuses, or those who take advantage of others without contributing to group efforts.
I was once a student, too. I have seen how a poor attitudes can cause high-potential candidates to face unnecessary challenges in life. There are no shortcuts to success. Working hard and sincerely will always make you outshine the rest.
You are fortunate to study at a public university like UTeM. Think of those who lack this opportunity and but thirst for the qualifications you are pursuing.
Think of the day your family and friends will attend your graduation. Do not fail yourself, and do not fail those who love you.
University is a place to refine your personality and build your strengths. You truly earn your title-Bachelor, Master or Doctor well when you pair knowledge with positive personal qualities. Carry that title well and reflect it through the quality of your work.
